Commenting on new data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) which shows that employment and turnover has grown in the UK pub sector, UKHospitality Chief Executive Kate Nicholls said:

“This positive news about increased employment in the pub sector is most welcome. Pubs have evolved through the years and continue to respond to changing consumer demands, which includes offering great tasting food as well as a diverse range of drinks and experiences.

“It’s important that we recognise that sector growth can only be maintained through other measures that mitigate increased costs around labour and property, such as business rates. Rates relief for small pubs has undoubtedly contributed to this turnaround, and shows the benefits of Government support - this must be extended to the wider hospitality sector to stimulate further growth and employment.

“The new Government must also address employer National Insurance Contributions (NICs) so that they can pay higher wages while continuing to invest in their businesses and attractive jobs.”
