Licensing extension marks start of £350m coronation weekend
May 5, 2023
As of Friday 5 May, pubs and bars will be able to benefit from extended licensing hours over the Coronation weekend, boosting potential footfall and sales.
The temporary extension to licensing hours will allow venues to stay open later, as part of the Coronation celebrations, and enable them to benefit from the estimated £350m boost the sector will see this long weekend.
UKHospitality Chief Executive Kate Nicholls said: “The King’s Coronation will be a historic moment for the country, bringing communities together in celebration and there’s no doubt that hospitality will be at the heart of events across the country, which we hope will deliver a £350m boost to the sector.
“This will also be of benefit to the influx of international visitors we expect this weekend, which follows almost a year of tourism levels increasing and taking us back up to pre-Covid levels.
“These celebrations come at a crucial time for hospitality and the £350 million boost we hope to see this Coronation weekend will be a huge lift to businesses dealing with record highs in energy, food and drink costs.”
The extension to licensing hours applies to England and Wales and permits licensed premises to remain open until 1am the following morning from Friday 5 May to Sunday 7 May 2023.
