As the leading trade body for hospitality, we work with the government, politicians and the wider sector to ensure the success of our members’ businesses. We collaborate with other trade associations, specialists and charities to bring the sector together behind common causes.

Government and politics - national and local

Our aim is to make sure that hospitality businesses are able to operate to the best of their ability and have a successful future, which means we work with politicians of all parties to achieve this.
As the leading trade body for the sector, we’re in regular and close contact with Ministers and officials in key government departments, including the Prime Minister’s office, Treasury, Department for Business and Trade, and Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

Our expertise of the sector means we’re afforded opportunities to work with Government on some of its priority areas, such as the GREAT campaign to showcase the UK’s talents. We’re also able to represent the sector within government on certain specialist issues, for example our Chief Executive Kate Nicholls is the Disability and Access Ambassador for the Cabinet Office, representing hospitality.

We champion the sector at every opportunity and that means working closely with MPs who chair dedicated All-Party Parliamentary Groups (APPGs) on areas relevant to our sector. That includes the APPG for Hospitality and Tourism, the All-Party Parliamentary Beer Group and the APPG for Weddings.

In addition to working with governments in Westminster, Edinburgh and Cardiff, we also work with the regional Mayor’s, local authorities and councils to ensure hospitality is represented at every level.

Working together in hospitality

As a sector, we’ve always been collaborative so we work across hospitality to lead projects and joint-working between other trade associations and stakeholder groups.

We pride ourselves on bringing together businesses behind a common cause. That could be getting hotels to sign up to the Hotelier’s Charter, bringing businesses together under the Hospitality and Wellbeing Development Promise or working with venues on joining forces to better community safety as part of schemes like Pub Watch or Best Bar None.

Our relationships extend to specialist organisations on priority areas for our members, such as skills, training and recruitment. For example, we work closely with specialist apprenticeship and training providers on developing the skills landscape.

Charities

Helping those within hospitality is incredibly important to us, and we have a long history of working with fantastic charities like the Licensed Trade Charity, Only A Pavement Away, Hospitality Action, Springboard and Room to Reward. Whether it’s helping those already working in hospitality or facilitating those who have fallen on hard times to get a job in the sector, we want to give back.

Our events are a central part of our work with charities, and are always used to raise money for a good cause. We even go the extra mile – including mammoth challenges like riding across Sri Lanka on their behalf.

Partners and sponsors

As a not-for-profit organisation, a lot of our work would not be possible without the support of generous businesses in hospitality. We have relationships with all types of hospitality operators and suppliers who sponsor our events and other work. If you want to support us, you can find out more here.

Our partners

We are proud to be partnered with the best organisations in the hospitality sector.
