UKHospitality Scotland urges further action on business rates

The trade body welcomes current relief but says many venues remain outside the system despite facing the same cost pressures.

Leon Thompson, Executive Director of UKHospitality Scotland, said:
The UK Government’s cut today on business rates on pubs, clubs and live music venues is a positive step and adds momentum to our ongoing conversations with the Scottish Government about further support for hospitality at the next Scottish Budget.
“The Scottish Government has already shown its commitment to the sector by providing 40% business rates relief for hospitality for three years. This support is welcome and is helping many businesses manage significant cost pressures.
“However, with relief currently limited to properties with a rateable value below £110,000, many hospitality businesses, including hotels, restaurants and larger venues, are locked out of support. Despite facing the same cost pressures as everyone else, they are unable to access relief they need to invest, create jobs and drive growth in their local communities, due to the current threshold.
“The next Scottish Budget is an opportunity to put that right and we look forward to continuing our discussions with the Scottish Government to ensure more businesses in our sector can benefit from meaningful business rates relief.”
