Recruitment of ex-offenders guidance

The Policy team at the Disclosure and Barring Service has launched a new guide aimed at supporting organisations to develop their own policies regarding the recruitment of those that have a disclosure shown on their DBS check.

The guide offers suggestions for organisations such as only asking individuals to provide details of convictions and cautions, that they are legally entitled to know about and to abide by the DBS Code of Practice. The guide also signposts to further support outside of DBS, if you need it.

This guidance is not legal advice and organisations should conduct a risk assessment to decide exactly what their policy should include.

By recruiting ex-offenders, businesses can tap into a broader talent pool.
