Visitor levy legislation represents an enormous change for the hospitality sector and our guests.
Edinburgh Council voted to introduce a Visitor Levy Scheme at the end of January this year. This means visitors to the city will pay a 5% charge from 24 July 2026.
Scottish Government legislation allows each of the country’s 32 councils to introduce a levy, if they choose to. To date, 21 authorities are considering a scheme, with some having launched consultations.
To keep members updated on these fast-moving developments and what it all means, we’re running a webinar, which will be invaluable to accommodation businesses and of huge interest to all hospitality businesses.
Our Executive Director of UKHospitality Scotland, Leon Thompson, will provide an introduction to the legislation and an update on where levies might appear.
Elin Williamson, Head of Business Growth and Inclusion at City of Edinburgh Council will provide a presentation on the city’s plans and how they are progressing.
There will be time for members to put their questions to Elin on Edinburgh’s scheme and to Leon on wider developments across the country.
With levies and charges being proposed across the UK, attending and learning more about the Scotland experience will be useful for all our accommodation businesses.
