Roadmap to net zero

It has never been more important for our sector to work together to tackle the climate crisis and, working with the Zero Carbon Forum, we have a clear plan to reach net zero by 2040.

General Election

Labour has won the General Election and Sir Keir Starmer is the UK’s new Prime Minister.

UKHospitality continues to ensure our industry is front and centre of engagement with the new government.

Workforce

Hospitality Workforce Strategy

UKHospitality’s workforce strategy examines all aspects of the sector’s labour needs, including recruitment, skills and training, people’s working lives, hospitality’s image as a sector in which to work and the infrastructure to support our employees.

Tax

VAT

The UK has one of the highest rates of VAT in Europe, which is a significant drag on our competitiveness on the world stage. Lowering the rate of VAT remains one of our core asks to government and is a key campaigning priority.

Political campaigning

Rising costs

We’re calling on the Government to tackle the rising costs hospitality businesses are facing as a key way to stem the inflation the country is seeing.

Energy

Energy suppliers

Improving the situation facing our members in the energy market is one of our top priorities and we’re pressing the Government and Ofgem at every opportunity to intervene and provide support for businesses.

Workforce

Worker shortages

Our people are absolutely essential to the success of hospitality businesses. After all, we’re a people first sector. Unfortunately, the entire sector has been struggling with worker shortages for far too long, with vacancies 48% above pre-pandemic levels. Tackling this is a core priority of ours and something we raise with the Government at every opportunity.

Budget 2024

Our focus at the Budget is to make sure the Government delivers the reform of the business rates system in England that they promised in their manifesto.
