UKHospitality Heart of England committee meet in Birmingham

There are 6 regional committees formed of UKHospitality members which meet quarterly.

This week there was a UKHospitality Heart of England Committee meeting held in Birmingham.

The meeting was hosted at the TNT Sports offices in the morning, before they headed to Merlin Entertainments venue, the National Sealife Centre Birmingham in the afternoon.

The group received a presentation from TNT Sports.

Abi Browne, Senior Commercial Manager with TNT Sports, spoke about the benefits of showing live sport in venues to help with mid- week footfall.

“Bringing a slice of the ocean to the Midlands”

The group then headed to the National Sealife Centre for a private tour to see the behind the scenes of the operation.

The centre holds a staggering 1.2 million litres of water and is home to 3,000 individual animals.

A highlight of the tour was seeing the otters housed at the centre. The sea otters were rescued from Alaska and are the only 2 in the whole of the U.K. The otters have to be fed regularly as they are the only marine animal without any blubber and eat a fifth of their body weight in a day.

The Centre is heavily focused on species native to the U.K. and conservation work.

They are about to open a fully licensed hatchery of crayfish, a native species that are under threat and live in rivers in the Midlands.
